DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Five University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball players took part Saturday in the Sun Conference All-Star Game, which the South team won 14-10 at Embry-Riddle's Sliwa Stadium.Â
Junior Delatorre was the lone USCB pitcher on the roster, and he was impressive in his inning of work, striking out two and recorded a scoreless inning after giving up a pair of two-out singles. The North team used 11 pitchers for one inning each, and Delatorre was one of only four who worked a scoreless frame.Â
USCB's Ashly Morris was the starting DH for the North and later saw action at shortstop. Morris went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run at the plate, and he handled all six of his chances at short.Â
Kyle Thompson also represented the Sand Sharks on the North team, scoring a run as a pinch-runner before playing right field and going 0-for-3 at the plate.Â
USCB catchers Alex Bonilla and Nick Payne played for the South team. Bonilla went 0-for-1 with a walk and Payne was 0-for-2 with a walk.Â
The Sand Sharks open the season with a home doubleheader against Northwestern Ohio at 11 a.m. Saturday.Â
