SILVIS, IL-- The Sand Sharks Men's Golf Team has made it, their goal of reaching the National Championships are complete, but now what? Well.... WIN of course, and thats just what the Sand Sharks have planed. After finishing the Spring season a little defeated at the Confernce Championships, the Sand Sharks dreams were kept alive thanks to their overall performance this season finishing 10th overall Nationally, earning them a berth to the National Championship.
Five USCB golfers qualified last week for their spot of the road to a national title, they include
Chris Lane,
Jack Bingham,
Reed Howard,
Jon Pannone, and
George Thacker. The golfers wanted to keep Sand Sharks fans in the loop with thier experiences, so they have decided to write about them, the following is the first update written by junior
Jon Pannone.....
Another epic day at TPC Deere Run, it was a bit more serious today because the tournament is a day away...shoots, everyone is amped for this week to come, we have been on the grind for entire year for this day. Whats cool about this whole thing is that we all sat down at Island West and talked about goals for the team at the begginning of the year and this was it...getting here.
This place is like heaven to me, there are pretty much no houses on the course, it is an old fashion course that requires ball striking and a lot of golf iq to score. There is one hole that bends to the right, it has a tree in the middle of the fairway that splits it, you can drive it left and have a straight look into the green or go right and have a bit of a shorter angle of attack in. once you get to the approach shot you look at a green that has a pretty deep bunker on the left side, the right side is a shaved down run off that falls off to the right and it looks like if you go long of the green it falls off the face of the Earth, its my favorite hole on the course. once you get to the green it over looks the Rock River and the 2nd hole which is a gorgouse par 5.... I could talk about this course forever, its like nothing I have ever played...driving into the course I could feel a sense of accomplishment for just getting into the tournament.
Only 30 teams get invited into this tournament and we earned our spot of 30 of the best teams in the NAIA...I think the team is also extremely proud of themselves for being here, but now that our first goal is accomplished we can go onto our next one.. winning...thanks for reading and we will keep you updated throughout the week...
