USCB Baseball Announces Six Signees

USCB Baseball coach, Rick Sofield has announced his first six recruits who will join the Sand Sharks for the 2010 season. “Our focus in recruiting is to make our club better by adding depth and quality in both our pitching staff and in the middle infield,” said Sofield. He added “We wanted to get guys who will give us a greater competitive environment every day in practice and during our season.”

ALEX GRAHAM-Buchholz HS, Newberry, FL-LHP------Coach Sofield's comments—“A left handed pitcher with a tremendous breaking ball. He will add to our pitching depth. Alex is a fierce competitor with serious instincts. He will be a major factor early.”

COREY BURGESS-Riverside, SC, USC Sumter RHP-----Coach Sofield's comments—“A closer for the nationally ranked junior college USC Sumter Fire Ants. Cory has a mature competitive fiber. He features a good fastball and a solid breaking pitch. We look for him to come out of our bullpen.”

KIEFER YOUMANS-South Effingham HS/Andrews College OF---Coach Sofield's comments---“Kiefer played outfield for Andrews College hitting .314. He brings in tremendous athleticism who runs well and has a tremendous arm. I expect him to play a lot for us”

LARRY PERRY-Fairfield Central/USC Sumter INF—Coach Sofield's comments—“Larry was the main spoke in the wheel that led USC Sumter to the National Junior College play-offs. He hit .320 as the lead-off hitter for the Fire Ants and led the team with 26 stolen bases. He could be as good as any player in the Sun Conference.”

BLAKE SANDERS-Brewton Parker SS---Coach Sofield's comments—“Blake will bring a presence along with a great work ethic and poise to the Sand Sharks. He is a quality defender who could change the outlook of our infield. He is a transfer from Brewton Parker where he hit over .300 while starting 39 games for the Barons.”

DENZEL CAMPBELL—Centennial HS, College Park, GA OF---Coach Sofield's comments---“Denzel reminds me of former major leaguer, Reggie Sanders. He is the whole package. Hit .525 as a senior this past spring. Has power to all fields and can hit to the gaps. He will be a good player here and could help us win the conference championship.”

Sofield is looking to make further announcements of new recruits later in the summer.
