Bluffton, SC- Emily Kuhfeld has been named the new women's golf coach at the USCB. In making the announcement on Monday, Athletic Director Ty Rietkovich said, “Emily will be an outstanding addition to our department and will be instrumental in the future success of our women's golf team.” Kuhfeld replaces
Chris Cuneo who was recently named the men's coach after Shane LeBaron was named USCB's Director of Golf.
Coach Kuhfeld hails from Indianapolis, IN and is a graduate of Ohio State University where she was a member of the golf team for four years. The Buckeyes won the Big Ten title each of her four seasons and she served as the team's captain her senior year. While at Ohio State, she also won numerous All Big Ten Academic awards.
After college, she joined the Futures Tour in 2006 playing in numerous professional events throughout the country until 2008 when she became a caddy for Allison Hanna on the LPGA tour. Kuhfeld moved to the Hilton Head area in late 2008 and has been an assistant professional at the Oyster Reef Golf Course and also has worked as an instructor at the JPGA.
“I look forward to getting back in the team environment of golf,” said Coach Kuhfeld. “I really like teaching a lot and look forward to the chance to mentor the young women on the team. We hope to can make a return trip to the nationals.” She added, “I am a goal orientated person and look forward to continued improvement throughout the year and hope we are playing our best golf at the end of the season.” The Sand Sharks return their top five players from a team that ended the 2010 season with a seventh place finish at the NAIA National Championships.
Newly appointed USCB Director of Golf Shane LeBaron commented, “Coach Kuhfeld is taking over a tremendous team. I believe she is the person who will continue to move the Sand Shark women's golf team moving forward. With her experience and background, it will be great for the team and staff to be around her.”
The Lady Sand Sharks will open their four event fall schedule at the Falcon Invitational in Daytona Beach on Sept 25 and 26.
