HARDEEVILLE — The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team remained perfect at home with a dominant doubleheader sweep of Edward Waters on Tuesday at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
The 25th-ranked Sand Sharks racked up two more mercy-rule victories — all six of their home games this season have ended early due to the eight-run rule — with 8-0 and 9-1 wins over the Tigers.
Haley Brown led the offensive attack in the first game, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Taylor Triplett and Sam Boland each added two hits and two RBIs.
Kristy Cook (8-3) pitched four scoreless innings for the win, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four, and Kendall Jumper tossed a scoreless fifth.
Byrd went 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs in the finale, while Triplett and Amber Williams each had two hits, Missy Hughes knocked in two runs and Brown hit her team-leading ninth home run of the season to end the game.
Jumper (1-1) earned the win, allowing one run and three hits over three innings, and Allie Rogers pitched two scoreless frames.
The Sand Sharks (12-8) are back in action this weekend, opening Sun Conference play with doubleheaders at Northwood on Saturday and at St. Thomas on Sunday.
