@USCBSoftball Streak Ends At 19 With Losses At SEU

LAKELAND, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team had its school-record 19-game winning streak halted with a pair of losses at Sun Conference rival Southeastern on Saturday.

The 13th-ranked Sand Sharks (29-10, 10-2 TSC) dropped the opener 5-4 before falling 8-1 in the finale for their first losses since March 10.

Sam Boland hit a solo homer and Haley Brown had a two-run single in the first game for USCB, which left 10 runners on base. Taylor Triplett contributed two hits.

The Fire (35-10, 11-1) took an early lead on Cat Maldonado's two-run homer in the first, but USCB answered with three in the second on Boland's homer and Brown's two-run single.

Southeastern responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame, and the Sand Sharks couldn't take advantage of their opportunities to pull even.

The Fire broke it open early in the second game with two runs in the first and six in the second. Whitley Martin had two hits and drove in the only run for USCB.

The Sand Sharks play a doubleheader at Edward Waters on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season with Sun Conference doubleheaders against visiting Ave Maria on Friday and Warner on Saturday.
