@USCBSoftball Sweeps Pair From Coastal Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The USCB softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Coastal Georgia on Tuesday, beating the Mariners 6-4 and 8-0. 

GAME 1 – USCB 6, CCGA 4

Marissa Becker went 3-for-3, including a three-run triple in the sixth inning that broke a 2-2 tie, to power the Sand Sharks in the opener. 

Natassja Hatcher was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Taylor Boykin was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored three times. 

Rachel Catt pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win, allowing four runs and eight hits, and fellow freshman Jordan Roney recorded the final five outs for her first save. Roney came on with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth and recorded back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Marissa Becker (3-for-3, 3B, 3 RBIs, BB, R)

GAME 2 – USCB 8, CCGA 0

Abby Pac tossed a three-hit shutout, and the Sand Sharks racked up 10 hits in a run-rule victory in the finale. Pac struck out three and walked one, and USCB gave her an early cushion. 

Boykin led off the game with a triple and scored on Kayla Boyle's RBI single, and Hatcher and Brittany Olean added RBIs later in the inning for a 3-0 lead.

The Sand Sharks tacked on two runs in the fourth and broke it open with three in the sixth on RBI singles from Hatcher and Emma Erwin and Olean's run-scoring groundout. 

Boyle and Erwin had two hits apiece, and Boyle, Hatcher and Olean each drove in two runs for USCB.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Abby Pac (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K)

FIN FACTS

Boyle extended her hitting streak to 20 games and boosted her team-leading RBI total to 30. … Becker is tied for fourth in the NAIA with five triples this season and is USCB's all-time leader with eight in her career. … Pac has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 17 of her 20 outings and has tossed four shutouts. 

UP NEXT

The Sand Sharks host No. 15 Southeastern for a three-game Sun Conference series this weekend. The opener is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday, and USCB will celebrate Family & Alumni Weekend throughout the series.
