@USCBSoftball Drops Two Tight Games To #15 Southeastern

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The USCB softball team nearly pulled off two more upsets Saturday, dropping a pair of close games to No. 15 Southeastern to wrap up a three-game Sun Conference series at Richard Gray Sports Complex.

GAME 1 – SEU 2, USCB 1

The Sand Sharks grabbed an early lead when Marissa Becker tripled in the first inning and scored on Kayla Boyle's RBI double, and it seemed as though USCB might make the single run stand up.

The Fire finally broke through against Abby Pac in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a throwing error to plate the tying run. Southeastern took the lead an inning later when Cheyenne Blaha beat out an infield single that brought home the eventual winning run.

USCB managed only three hits against Stef Guercio, all of which came in the first two innings.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Abby Pac (7 IP, 11 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K)

GAME 2 – SEU 7, USCB 5

USCB erased a four-run deficit in the finale and led 5-4 entering the seventh inning before the Fire rallied for three runs in the final frame to take the rubber match of the series.

Southeastern scored two runs in the second and two in the third to built a 4-0 lead, but USCB chipped away with two runs in the third with the aid of a Fire error. Alexa Moore's RBI double cut it to 4-3 in the fourth, and the tying run came across on an error before Carrie Cochran's single brought in the go-ahead run.

A leadoff walk and a single set up the Fire rally in the seventh, and a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt allowed the tying run to score. Kiah Ferrell's infield single brought in the go-ahead run, and the Fire plated an insurance run on Sam Holcomb's sacrifice fly.

USCB brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh before Lindsie Scholwinski ended the threat.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Carrie Cochran (2-for-3, 2B, R, RBI)
