Softball ends regular season with a pair of wins

West Palm Beach, FL-- The USCB softball team took both games of their double-header against Keiser University yesterday evening, defeating the Seahawks 2-1 and 4-3.

Game One

USCB plated the two runs they needed in the top of the first inning. Rachel Frankhouser earned the leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Boykin. Kayla Boyle then doubled to left field to bring in Frankhouser. Kylie Kelly stepped in and hit an RBI-single to center field that scored Boyle.

In game one both Kelly and Melina Martinez ended up 2-3 to lead USCB to their first win of the afternoon.

In the circle, Abby Pac earned her 15th win of the year, 7th in conference play, going the complete game, surrendering 1 run on 5 hits.

Game Two

USCB, down 1-2 going into the seventh inning, found three runs to bring home their second win of the afternoon.

The Sand Sharks found a run in the top half of the second when Martinez put down the squeeze play where Boyle was able to beat the throw home.

In the seventh inning, with the pressure on, USCB looked to senior Carrie Cochran to lead things off. Cochran stood in and took first on a hit-by-pitch before she was able to steal second in the following at-bat. Frankhouser was able to advance Cochran to third after a sacrifice bunt. Boykin hit a triple to the gap in left center, Kaitlyn O'Hearn doubled to the same spot, and Boyle finished things off with a double to right field.

Pitching for USCB in game two was Maria Molloseau, who went the complete game, giving up 3 runs on 10 hits while striking out 5.

The Sand Sharks put together the seventh-inning rally to finish of the regular season, going 32-19 overall (12-12 TSC) and earning a 4-seed in the Sun Conference Championships. The double-elimination tournament will begin May 3 in Clermont, Florida.
