Sand Sharks Walk Off Again, Claim Berth in Title Round on Saturday

CLERMONT, Fla. - For the second straight day, the USCB softball team collected another walk-off hit, as senior Natassja Hatcher lifted the Sand Sharks to a 4-3 victory over Webber International on Friday in the semifinal round of The Sun Conference Championship at Legends Ballfields.

The walk-off hit came in the bottom of the seventh, as the Sand Sharks rallied after being down 3-1 in the final frame. The victory on Saturday gives USCB a berth to the title round and one win away from being named Sun Conference Tournament Champions.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Hatcher - 1-for-3, game-winning hit and RBI

Kaitlyn O'Hearn - 2-for-4, one RBI

Canyon Crosby - 2-for-4, one RBI

Shania Domingue - 1-for-3, one RBI

HOW IT HAPPENED

Webber started the game red hot, as it plated two runs in the first inning. Ka'Deisha McCowen cracked a leadoff double to right center to start the rally. Two batters later, she moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and then the Warriors rattled off three straight two-out hits to take the early 2-0 lead.

USCB answered in the bottom of the first with a run. Kayla Boyle walked with one out, and Crosby cracked a single to put two runners on base . A batter later, O'Hearn tallied a single to right center to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

The Warriors added a key run in the second with back-to-back hits from McCowen and Mary-Margaret Maggard to push the lead to 3-1.

USCB started to find a groove in both the fourth and fifth innings, as the Sand Sharks combined for two hits and two walks. However, they couldn't capitalize and left four stranded.

Following a quick sixth inning for both squad, Webber went 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to hold on to its two-run advantage.

However, that lead quickly disappeared in the final half inning. Melina Martinez started the inning by reaching base off a fielding error, and Taylor Boykin followed with a bunt hit to put two runners on base. Boyle moved both Sand Sharks up 60 feet to put the two runners in scoring position. Domingue recorded a sacrifice fly, which scored Martinez from third and made the game 3-2. Crosby followed with her second hit of the game to knot the game at 3-all with just one out. Caroline Heaton came in to pinch run for Crosby, and O'Hearn smacked a single to advance the winning run to second. Hatcher fell in to a 1-2 count, and she recorded the game-winning hit to left field to give USCB the 4-3 win.
