LAKELAND, Fla. - Despite a late surge, the USCB softball team fell in the series finale to No. 20 Southeastern, 10-2, on Saturday afternoon at the SEU Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
USCB was able to put runners on base in both the first and second innings via leadoff walks. However, the Sand Sharks were held scoreless in the early portion of the game.
No. 20 Southeastern took advantage in the bottom of the second with a five-run frame. The Fire connected with three hits and a hit by pitch to account for the big inning.
USCB pitching stayed strong in the middle innings (third and fourth), as it left five Fire players stranded without a run to score.
The Sand Shark offense came alive in the top of the fifth when Weller worked some two-out magic. Alte started the rally with a single, and Miller reached to put two runners on base. Jazmin Ramirez came up with a quality at-bat (walk) to load the bases. After a strikeout, Weller cracked a two RBI double to center to make it a three-run contest, 5-2.
However, Southeastern answered and put the game away in the bottom of the fifth. The Fire tallied five runs to run-rule the Sand Sharks by eight, 10-2.

USCB will now turn its attention to a pivotal Sun Conference series on April 22-23. The series will be held at Thomas in Thomasville, Ga., as it serve as the final road league series of the 2022 season for USCB.
