HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats opened the game with a crooked number by plating seven runs off four hits, an error and three walks. After one complete, STU held the 7-0 lead.
USCB started to claw its way back into the game by scoring five unanswered runs in the second and third innings. Reynolds smashed her team-leading eighth bomb of the year in the second. In the top of the third, Weller and Freeman cracked homers of their own to pull back within two, 7-5.
STU then went on an unanswered stretch, as it scored three straight in the third and fourth innings. With that, they retook the commanding lead, 10-5.
Just like earlier in the game, USCB showed a lot of fight, as it scored two more runs in the top of the fifth. Ashlyn Alte walked to start the inning, and two quick outs were recorded. Harlee Walker worked a walk, and Miller was intentionally walked to force the bases loaded. To make it hurt, Coleman poked a two RBI single through the left side to make it a three-run contest, 10-7.
The Bobcats added one more insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth before holding USCB off the scoreboard in the sixth.
USCB made the contest interesting in the seventh when Gaskin started the surge with a bunt single. Reynolds reached base on a fielder's choice, but STU recorded an unorthodox double play. Miller and Coleman continued to stay hot with back-to-back single to force the bases loaded. With the tying run at the plate, Haley Massenburg came in to pinch hit. After a quality at-bat, she grounded out, as USCB fell in the the series finale, 11-7.
