HOW IT HAPPENED
Thomas took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first via an error. The Night Hawks used small ball to move Makana Pember into scoring position, and a double from Adreanna Killingsworth brought her home to take the early lead.
The Sand Sharks quickly answered in the top of the first though with a RBI groundout. Reynolds led off the inning with a single, and Smith followed with an infield hit. After a sac bunt from Alte, Miller plated Reynolds from third on a groundout to tie the game 1-1.Â
An inning later, TU pulled away by making it a two-run contest, 3-1. Killingsworth connected with a sac fly, and Dara Moore tallied a run-scoring hit to account for the runs.Â
After a quiet fourth inning for both clubs, the Night Hawks tacked on two more insurance runs with two outs to pull ahead by four, 5-1.
USCB found some momentum in the top of the sixth when it strung across three hits. Smith (single) and Alte (double) put two runners in scoring position, and after an out, Ramirez connected with a single to the pitcher to pull within three, 5-2.Â
Down to three outs, the Sand Sharks tried to mount a comeback. Freeman poked a single to left, but that would be all USCB could record in the 5-2 loss.Â
