Softball cruises in game one vs Hilltoppers, fall in game to Trojans

MOUNT OLIVE -- USCB's potent offense was on display in the game one, knocking of West Liberty 15-1, but the Sand Sharks dropped game two 4-1 to host Mount Olive in the first day of the Mount Olive Softball Round Robin Saturday.
 
Taelor Chang went 4-for-6 on the afternoon with six runs batted in and a home run. Third baseman Mariah Stephens also had a stellar performance going 3-for-7 with five RBI's and a long ball as well. Cassie Brundage picked up the win in game one and was tabbed with the loss in game two.
 
USCB's explosive offense jumped out to a six-run lead in the after Chang's two-run double to left. Stephens made it 4-0 with a two RBI single to center. Beaufort pushed across another two runs courtesy of two Hilltoppers' errors. Makenzie Fore tripled to left and Sarria Simmons followed with a run-scoring single as USCB added three more runs in the second. 
 
The Sand Sharks continued to pour it on in the fourth and fifth innings as Chang and Stephens both went yard, increasing the lead to 14. Cassie Brundage (4-1) relieved Cierra Kinlaw in the third and worked 2.2 innings of scoreless ball to earn the win. 
 
Chang put Beaufort on the board in the first inning after ripping an RBI base knock to right, but that was it for the offense in game two as the Sand Sharks were blanked by Trojan's starter Hannah Killough over the next six innings.
 
The three teams meet tomorrow as the Mount Olive Softball Round Robin concludes tomorrow. USCB and West Liberty get things started at 1 p.m. and then will play host MOU at 5 p.m.
