Chang explodes for nine RBI; USCB run rules Erskine, Tusculum

HARDEEVILLE -- Taelor Chang went a combined 5-for-6 with a homer and nine runs batted in helping USCB collect two run rule victories over Erskine and Tusculum to wrap up the final day of the Lowcountry Classic Saturday evening.

Opening up with Tusculum, the Sand Sharks stepped on the gas from the first pitch. A leadoff walk and back-to-back bunt singles bunt singles loaded the bases before Addie Reynolds singled to left making it 1-0. Chang stepped up to the plate and unloaded the bases with three RBI double to left and scored on a two-base error by the catcher. The lineup turned over and Jaden Goodwin reached on a fielder's choice, making it 6-0. Daryn Miller tripled down the right field line to score two more and Devon Weller followed with an RBI base knock up the middle to cap USCB's first inning scoring.

Cassie Brundage toed the rubber for Beaufort and worked a scoreless first four innings before the Pioneers scored five runs in the fifth all via the home run. USCB put two runners on with two outs and brought Chang to the plate and she promptly sent a long ball deep into the Hardeeville night ending the game in run-rule fashion, 13-5.

Game two started off similarly to game one as the Sand Sharks jumped out to a 10-0 lead after one inning. Three straight hits put USCB up 1-0 and after Reynolds struck out Miller was able sneak home on the the throw to first. Consecutive doubles from Change and Mariah Stephens made it 4-0 and Jaci Coleman followed with a two-RBI single before two straight bases loaded walks then made the score 8-0 Sand Sharks. Chang continued her hot hitting ripping another two single to right capping the 10-run inning.

Erskine scored twice in the top half of the second, but USCB answered with a sac fly. A throwing error allowed the Fleet to score another run, but the Sand Sharks added one more in the bottom of the fourth. EU put one runner on in the top of the fifth, but Cierra Kinlaw finished off her third straight complete game to finish the weekend sweep.

USCB hosts Savannah State in the "River Rivalry" game this Saturday in Hardeeville. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
