Sand Sharks drop pair to Aiken to open series

AIKEN -- USCB's potent offense was stifled by the Pacer's Payton Baxter and Lakyn Phillips as the Sand Sharks mustered only five hits on the afternoon, dropping the first two games of the weekend series with USC Aiken 4-1 and 9-0 in Aiken. 
 
Aiken scored single runs in the third and fourth to control the first part of the game, but USCB broke through in the sixth after Taelor Chang's sacrifice fly. The Pacers added two more runs in the bottom of sixth and the Sand Sharks had the tying run on deck before Tamiyah Whitlock hit into a game-ending double play. Cierra Kinlaw (5-3) threw a complete game in the loss allowing four runs, three earned while picking up two strikeouts.
 
The Pacers quickly jumped on starter Cassie Brundage (6-2) for four runs in the first and then tacked on two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
 
The series concludes tomorrow with a 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
