Late rally comes up short as USCB drops two to Flagler

HARDEEVILLE -- Jaci Coleman stayed hot at the plate collecting four hits and Jaden Goodwin went 3-for-3 in the night cap, but the Sand Sharks late inning rally came up just short in game two as USCB fell 4-2 and 4-3 Saturday at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.

The Saints scratched across a single run in the third inning, but Beaufort took a 2-1 lead after Daryn Miller singled to left scoring Saria Simmons and an errant throw brought home Katelyn Boyette. Flagler knotted the game in the fifth, before adding two more in the seventh. The Sand Sharks went down 1-2-3 to end game one 4-2.

Game two began with Flagler pushing two runs across the plate. USCB answered by starting the bottom of the first with three straight hits. Goodwin singled to right field and Coleman's heads up slide trimmed the lead to 2-1. In the fourth Boyette singled to open the frame and moved to second on MJ Stradinger's groundout bringing Makenzie Fore to the plate, and she promptly ripped the first pitch of the AB down the left field line for an RBI double to tie the game at two.

Back-to-back errors to open the top of the sixth allowed the Saints to take a 4-2 lead but it was Simmons who electrfied USCB's dugout as she laced a leadoff triple into the gap and then scored on an errant throw from the shortstop. The Sand Sharks put the tying run on base with two outs and Chloe Turner blasted a ball into right, but the ballpark was just big enough to hold it and Flagler escpaed with the 4-3 victory.

Game three of the series is sceduled for a 12 noon first pitch tomorrow in Hardeeville.
