Weller walks off Cougars in opener as USCB splits with CSU

HARDEEVILLE -- The senior weekend could not have started better for shortstop Devon Weller as she blasted a pair of homers including a walk-off blast in game one, capping a thrilling 8-6 come from behind win as the Sand Sharks split the first two games of the series with Columbus State Saturday evening at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.

Game One
Cierra Kinlaw (9-6) worked a scoreless first inning but ran into trouble in the second allowing five runs to come across for CSU. The Cougars added a single run in the sixth to make it 6-0 heading to the final innings. But USCB fought and made it a one-run after Alyssa Rose was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jaden Goodwin reached on a fielder's choice and Katelyn Boyette on an error. Taelor Chang and Addie Reynolds recorded RBIs setting the stage in the bottom of the seventh.

After Daryn Miller's one-out triple allowed for Goodwin's game-tying sacrifice fly, Weller stepped up and drilled a walk-off two-run homer to give Beaufort the 8-6 win.

Game Two
Columbus State's offense jumped on starter Cassie Brundage (7-5) for eight runs before giving way to Abby Ramirez. USCB pushed across three runs in the fourth on Weller's second home run of the day. Two more runs came across in the fifth, but Columbus State took the game to a score 13-5.
