Softball runs streak to eight with sweep of Broncos

HARDEEVILLE -- Backed by the power provided by the middle of the lineup USCB softball ran its winning streak to eight games and improved to 6-0 at home after sweeping the Broncos of Fayetteville State Tuesday afternoon 9-1 and 6-4.

Katelynn Boyette led the way offensively in game one collecting three hits while Taelor Chang and Addie Reynolds combined for five RBIs. Cassie Brundage (5-1) tossed a complete game allowing just one run on two hits while punching out four Broncos.

The top of the lineup shined in game two as Saria Simmons, Chloe Turner, and Tamiyah Whitlock combined for six hits and five runs batted in. Abigail Ramirez (2-0) picked up the win tossing five innings of three run ball. The senior righty struck out five while issuing only two base on balls.

GAME ONE
Chang's third homerun of the season put the Sand Sharks on the board and then USCB plated six runs in the second. An RBI ground out from Mariah Stephens followed by a bases loaded walk scored two. Two more runs crossed before Reynolds barely missed her fourth long ball of the season with a two-run double off the centerfield wall. That was plenty of support for Brundage who worked three 1-2-3 innings.

GAME TWO
The bats were cooled off a bit in game two as the game was scoreless through the first two innings. Turner broke the deadlock with a two-run single to right in the third. Isbella Rembold's RBI in the top of the third got FSU on the board, but the offense picked it up in the bottom half of the inning. Caleigh Eubanks scored on a wild pitch, setting the stage for Whitlock who ripped a two-run double down the left field line. Simmons brought home Whitlock in the next AB and the Sand Sharks we rolling in the middle innings.

The Broncos scored single runs over the next three innings and Madison Murphy came in to shut the door working two innings striking out four.

USCB travels to UNC Pembroke tomorrow for a twinbill with the Braves beginning at 2 p.m. Peach Belt play begins on Saturday against Lander.
