DAYTONA BEACH -- USCB endured a pair of heartbreaking extra-inning losses Wednesday afternoon, falling twice to Embry-Riddle 2-1 in eight innings in game one and 6-5 in 11 innings in game two at Radiology Associates Field.
GAME ONE
The opener was a classic pitcher's duel, with Cierra Kinlaw delivering a masterful performance in the circle. The senior lefty kept the Eagles off balance for six stellar innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out one.
Despite strong pitching from both sides, USCB's offense struggled to break through. That changed in the top of the seventh when Addie Reynolds delivered in the clutch, launching her fifth home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1 and send it to extra innings.
However, Embry-Riddle found the answer in the eighth, capitalizing on a one-out single to put a runner aboard before Kelsey Kressler was hit by a pitch to score the game-winning RBI to seal a 2-1 defeat for the Sand Sharks.
GAME TWO
Beaufort's high powered offense was on display in game two, erupting four runs in the second inning. Jaden Goodwin provided the big hit, lacing a bases-clearing three-run double to put the Sand Sharks in control. Makenzie Fore extended the lead in the third with her team-leading seventh home run of the season, giving USCB a 5-1 advantage.
However, Embry-Riddle refused to go quietly, chipping away at the lead with single run in the fifth before tying the game in the sixth at 5-5. The contest stretched into extra innings, where both teams remained scoreless for four and a half frames.
Once again, the Eagles found the decisive hit, breaking through in the 11th inning with a single up the middle to bring home the game-winning run and hand USCB another crushing extra-inning defeat.
Kinlaw (7-5), after her impressive start in game one, returned to the circle in relief in game two, delivering 5.2 gritty innings to keep the Sand Sharks in the fight.
