Softball drop both ends of doubleheader to Lander

GREENWOOD -- A explosive game one finished in heart break and the bats couldn't replicate the actions of game one in the finale as the Sand Sharks dropped both ends of a doubleheader versus Lander on Sunday, 11-10 and 3-0.

As the weather has started to heat up so has the bat of Taelor Chang. The junior DP went 3-for-5 in game one, blasting her fifth home run of the season and increased her RBI total to 25. Daryn Miller also had three hits and Tamiyah Whitlock went 2-for-4 with a run scored from the leadoff spot. Madison Murphy got the nod in game one, tossing four innings and striking out seven. Cierra Kinlaw (7-4) got the loss after giving up five runs in just 1.1 innings of work out of the bullpen.

USCB only had three hits in game two and were shutout by the Bearcats. Cassie Brundage (5-2) took the loss, throwing 3.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits.

GAME ONE
Beaufort scored three runs in the opening inning thanks to some Lander miscues. Two runs crossed via the error and Chang capped the three-run inning with a single to center. Murphy kept the Bearcats scoreless through the first three innings and then was handed a seven-run lead after USCB plated four in the fourth. Jaden Goodwin earned an RBI the hard way getting hit by a pitch and Chloe Turner drove home another with a ground out. Chang picked up her second and third RBI of the game with a two-run single up the middle, putting the Sand Sharks up 7-0.

Lander battled back and scored four unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning and the teams traded zeroes in the fifth. Chang, the Lebanon, Tennessee native stepped up and blasted a long home run to left and USCB was up 10-7. The Bearcats countered with five runs in the bottom half of the sixth before walking USCB off in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double.

GAME TWO
Lander scored solo runs in the first three innings of game two and kept the Sand Sharks off the board, not allowing a runner past second base.

Beaufort hosts Georgia College this weekend beginning Friday evening with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
