HARDEEVILLE -- USCB completed a three-game sweep of the Augusta Jaguars behind Jaden Goodwin's clutch three-run double in the fourth inning. The 6-4 victory marked the Sand Sharks' first sweep in PBC play since joining the conference in 2023.
Augusta struck first, but Beaufort quickly responded in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly to even the score. The Jaguars regained the lead with an RBI single and a wild pitch in the third, then followed with a shutdown inning to keep the score at 3-1. However, Cierra Kinlaw (9-8) answered with a flawless 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fourth, setting the stage for Beaufort's explosive five-run frame.
The bottom of the fourth walks to two of the first three batters, giving the Sand Sharks an early scoring opportunity. MJ Stradinger came through with a single to right field, bringing home the first run of the inning to cut the deficit to 3-2. With the bases loaded following another walk, Saria Simmons showed patience at the plate, drawing a free pass to force in the tying run.
With momentum shifting, Goodwin stepped up in the biggest moment of the game. On the first pitch of her at-bat, she turned on a fastball and drove it deep into the right-center gap, clearing the bases and putting USCB in front, 6-3. The three-run double sent the home dugout into a frenzy and capped off a game-changing inning for the Sand Sharks.
Augusta trimmed the deficit with a run in the fifth, but Madison Murphy entered in the sixth and slammed the door shut. The right-hander tossed two perfect innings to seal the win and secure the program's first PBC sweep.
USCB will travel to Americus, Georgia, this weekend for a three-game series against the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes.
