Sand Sharks knock off No. 8 UNG to claim series on senior day

HARDEEVILLE -- USCB Softball closed out its regular season with a bang on Sunday, earning a thrilling 5-4 victory over eighth-ranked North Georgia to capture the series win.

In a game that showcased grit, timely hitting, and a heavy dose of senior leadership, the Sand Sharks made history with their first-ever series win over a top-10 opponent in the program's NCAA era. Following the emotional victory, USCB honored its seven seniors in a heartfelt postgame ceremony, celebrating a class that has helped shape the continued rise of Sand Shark Softball.

North Georgia struck first in the second inning when Tagan Levao-Maisonet launched a two-run homer to center, but USCB starter Madison Murphy (8-6) kept her composure, working a quick third inning to keep the deficit at 2-0.

The Sand Sharks' offense came alive in the bottom of the third. After loading the bases, sophomore Caleigh Eubanks came off the bench and delivered immediately, lining the first pitch she saw into left field to tie the game at two. Moments later, Jaden Goodwin stayed red-hot at the plate, ripping a two-run double down the right field line to put USCB ahead 4-2. Mariah Stephens capped the inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-2.

That cushion would prove just enough. Abigail Ramirez turned in a key scoreless relief outing to bridge the gap to the later innings. Senior Cierra Kinlaw recorded the final five outs to notch her second save of the year. In fitting fashion, seniors Daryn Miller and Kinlaw were both involved in sealing the final outs, with Miller recording two flyouts and Kinlaw teaming up with fellow senior Makenzie Fore for the final play.

With Sunday's triumph, USCB not only celebrated its seniors in style but also look forward to the postseason. The Sand Sharks now turn their attention to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, where a familiar foe awaits — North Georgia. The two teams will meet again in the quarterfinals on May 2, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. in Dahlonega.
