Sand Sharks Fast Start Leads to Run Rule Victory

HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA — The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team opened a three-game series against Flagler on Friday evening, as the Sand Sharks dominated in a 10–0 victory. A five-run first inning set the tone for the game.

USCB improves to 19–13 overall and 3–7 in Peach Belt Conference play. Flagler falls to 9–20 on the season with a 5–5 conference mark.

The Sand Sharks were led offensively by a three-RBI performance from Caleigh Eubanks, while Emma Reynolds added two RBIs. Catharine Conway recorded two hits and scored twice, and Taelor Chang also finished with two hits. Madison Murphy earned her 10th win of the season with a complete-game shutout, striking out three and allowing just one hit.

After a scoreless top of the first inning, the Sand Sharks' offense jumped out early. Conway led off with a single, followed by a Flagler error. After an out, Chang delivered an RBI double to left field, and another run scored as Tamiyah Whitlock came around, giving USCB an early lead.

Brinkman added another run as Chang scored on an error before Reynolds lined a single up the middle, driving in two runs and extending the lead to 5–0.

Flagler threatened in the second inning, putting runners on first and second, but a groundout and a strikeout ended the frame, keeping the Saints scoreless.

The score remained 5–0 into the bottom of the fourth. Following back-to-back perfect innings from Murphy, the Sand Sharks broke the game open with five more runs. Conway and Whitlock opened the inning with consecutive singles, setting up Chloe Turner's RBI single to make it 6–0.

With the bases loaded, Eubanks delivered a three-RBI double to clear the bases and push the lead to 9–0. She later came around to score, giving USCB a 10–0 advantage.

Murphy sealed the win with a perfect 1-2-3 fifth inning, as the Sand Sharks secured the run-rule victory over the Saints. The shutout marked Murphy's 12th complete game and seventh shutout of the season.
