Sand Sharks Close Home Schedule with Senior Day Win

HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team concluded the home portion of its schedule with Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. The Sand Sharks used a fast five-run first inning and cruised to a 12–4 run-rule victory.

Taelor Chang recorded a team-high three RBIs along with two hits, one of four players to tally multiple hits in the win. Saria Simmons led the team with four runs scored, followed by three from Tamiyah Whitlock.

Madison Murphy pitched a complete game, earning her 17th win of the season.

The game began with the first three baserunners reaching safely before a bases-clearing, three-RBI double from Chang gave USCB an early 3–0 lead. The Sand Sharks then executed a double steal to bring Chang home for a 4–0 advantage. Chloe Turner added an RBI groundout to make it 5–0.

The score remained 5–0 until the third inning, when Georgia Southwestern got two runs back on an RBI single and a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 5–2. USCB answered in the bottom of the inning, as Simmons scored on a passed ball to extend the lead to 6–2 through three innings.

The Sand Sharks continued to build on their lead in the fourth. Simmons delivered an RBI single to score Whitlock, and Chang followed with another RBI double to make it 8–2. Katelyn Boyette added an RBI single, pushing the score to 9–2.

Georgia Southwestern plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning, trimming the lead to 9–4 after an RBI single.

USCB responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to seal the run-rule victory. The rally began with a single by Conway, followed by an RBI single from Simmons to score her. Later, Tristen Norris drove in Whitlock with an RBI to make it 11–4. Boyette capped the scoring with an RBI single, bringing home Simmons for the final 12–4 margin.

The Sand Sharks will close out the regular season on the road against the University of South Carolina Aiken on Saturday and Sunday May 2nd and 3rd.
