In her first year at the helm of the softball program, Wigness brought the program to new heights. The Sand Sharks finished the year 40-13 overall, won The Sun Conference Tournament and earned a bid to the NAIA Tournament.
Wigness and the entire Sand Shark team was unstoppable all year, as USCB ended the year with a 15-9 conference mark and a stellar 26-2 record on its home field. USCB opened the season 19-0 before suffering its first loss of the year. As the two seed in the Sun Conference Tournament, USCB ran through the postseason tournament without suffering a loss. The Sand Sharks outscored their opponents 22-6 in the three-game stretch before claiming their third-ever Sun Conference Tournament title. USCB earned the two seed in the Columbia, Ky. regional, but the Sand Sharks weren't able to advance after falling in the first two games of the regional.Â
Wigness coached several players that had breakout years and saw several school records fall in her first year at USCB. Kayla Boyle broke the school record for career hits (234) and doubles (52). Boyle also tied the school record for most doubles in a single season with 17. Only as a sophomore, Rachel Frankhouser broke the USCB career record for walks with 63 and single season record for on-base percentage with a .563 mark. Taylor Boykin also broke the school mark for walks in a single season with 35, while Shania Domingue finished the year with 17 hit-by-pitches - the most in a single year at USCB.Â
Prior to her first year at USCB, Wigness spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Boise State University. Wigness joined the Broncos coaching staff in August 2015 and helped lead the team to new program heights, including records for most wins in a season (40), most conference wins in a season (18), the first conference title in school history and the first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Broncos were also ranked nationally in several categories in 2018, including batting average (1st), scoring (1st) and on-base percentage (3rd). During the 2017 campaign, Boise State finished the year ranked eighth in the country in batting average. While she was coaching, Wigness also earned her masters degree from Boise State in educational leadership in May of 2018.Â

Prior to coaching at Boise State, Wigness spent a year with Arizona Christian University, where she handled the hitting and outfield coaching duties. Wigness was part of a coaching staff that achieved a program-best 31 wins in a season—a 20-win turnaround from the previous year, which marked the biggest turnaround in the NAIA in 2015.

Wigness graduated from Arizona State University in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in communications and political science.

During her tenure at ASU, Wigness was named a three-time All-Pac-12 selection while also leading the Sun Devils to an NCAA title in 2011. Over the course of her career, Wigness batted .371 with 141 hits, scoring 130 runs and recording 40 stolen bases.

Along with her athletic accolades, Wigness was a three-time selection to the Capital One Academic All-America Division I Softball Team and the Pac-12 Softball All-Academic First Team with a 4.0 GPA. Wigness was also softball's recipient of the NCAA Elite 89 Award in 2013—given annually to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the respective sport's NCAA championship event.
