@USCBSoccer Loses Regular-Season Finale At Thomas, Awaits Postseason Fate

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 4-0 loss at Thomas on Saturday, leaving the Sand Sharks in need of some help to qualify for next month's Sun Conference Tournament.

The Sand Sharks came close to cashing in an early chance when Alexandria Radue's free kick glanced off the crossbar in the ninth minute but couldn't mount much pressure the rest of the afternoon. USCB put only three shots on goal and generated only three corner kicks.

"I am extremely disappointed in our performance today," USCB coach Ed Heberling said. "We lacked any possession or creativity and couldn't get any rhythm."

Thomas broke through on Linnea Roivas' goal in the 30th minute and led 1-0 at halftime. Adrianna Johnson scored in the 57th minute, and Mackenzie Dolan converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute to put it out of reach. Rebekah Wiltshire scored in the 82nd minute to cap the scoring.

With the loss, the Sand Sharks finish the conference schedule with 15 points and remain in a three-way tie for third place. With three more teams sitting at 12 points, however, USCB could end up in up to a five-team tie for the final spots in the six-team Sun Conference Tournament.

Despite a number of potential scenarios still in play, the Sand Sharks likely need Webber International (vs. Warner) or Southeastern (vs. Ave Maria) to lose or tie their final match to reach the postseason.

"We had a chance to take control of our situation today, but Thomas wanted it more today, and it showed," Heberling said. "Now we have to wait and see what happens."
