HUTCHINSON ISLAND — The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's golf team edged rival SCAD Savannah by one shot and junior Brad Curren claimed medalist honors with a 3-under-par 69 on Friday at The Club at Savannah Harbor.
The ninth-ranked Sand Sharks posted a team score of 291 to claim this season's first installment of the Battle of the Bridge rivalry series. The teams plan to play a second dual match at USCB's home course, Oldfield Club, before the end of the season.
Curren had the day's best score by three shots over teammate Seth Rockwell, while Jud Milam shot 74 and Chandler McDonald 76 to round out USCB's scoring. Chris Finke (83) was the fifth player in the starting lineup.
Others competing for USCB were CJ Kelly (73), Alan Cooke (74), Chandler Vilcheck (76), Cory Cottrell (76), Jesse Maislin (76), Alex Mihai (76) and Shane Goldsmith (88).
The Sand Sharks return to action April 5-6 at the Golfweek Invitational at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
