HARDEEVILLE — The University of South Carolina Beaufort softball team rang up two more mercy-rule victories Saturday, beating Sun Conference rival Webber International 10-1 and 8-0 in a pair of five-inning games at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
The 14th-ranked Sand Sharks (28-8, 10-0 TSC) ran their school-record winning streak to 18 games and have allowed only two runs in their past eight contests.
Shelby Zipperer homered among three hits, Haley Brown went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Marissa Becker went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs in the first game, which ended on Maddie Byrd's grand slam in the fifth inning. Kristy Cook (18-2) allowed one run on four hits and struck out three for the win.
Byrd went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Brown and Hughes each had two hits and an RBI in the second game. Ashlie Layman (6-5) threw a two-hit shutout, walking three and striking out six.
The Sand Sharks host Brewton-Parker for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. Wednesday before traveling to Southeastern for a Sun Conference matchup next Saturday.
