#SandSharkBaseball Sweeps Webber To Clinch TSC Tourney Berth

BABSON PARK, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team locked up the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Sun Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep at Webber International on Saturday.

Jamie Strock tossed a five-hit shutout and Ashly Morris and Johnny Cole hit home runs as the Sand Sharks won the first game 9-0 and Josh Reinhart went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, including the go-ahead run in the 11th inning as USCB took the finale 3-1.

Strock (6-5) allowed only one extra-base hit and finished with two strikeouts and two walks in his first shutout of the season. Kyle Thompson and Michael Johnson each added two hits and two RBIs for the Sand Sharks.

Morris and Cole each blasted their seventh home runs of the season, matching Brandon Collins' single-season school record set in 2010.

USCB got more great pitching the nightcap, as Kutler Lane took a shutout into the sixth and was charged with one run and four hits over 5 1/3 innings, and Blake Drew held down the Warriors for 5 2/3 innings with four hits and three walks.

The Sand Sharks turned inning-ending double plays in the seventh and eighth, and Drew worked out of another jam in the 10th to strand the winning run after he had reached third with one out.

An error opened the door for USCB in the 11th, and Reinhart and Chaztin Venezia each came through with RBI singles to put the Sand Sharks on top before Drew induced three straight grounders to Morris at shortstop to end it.

The Sand Sharks play a non-conference doubleheader at Trinity Baptist on Tuesday in Jacksonville, Fla., before wrapping up the regular season April 28 at Armstrong State. The Sun Conference Tournament begins May 1 in Fort Myers, Fla.
