@USCBSoccer Falls To Florida Tech

BLUFFTON — The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team was unable to carry over the momentum from its recent strong play into Thursday's match, as the Sand Sharks lost 8-0 to visiting Florida Tech at Fin Land Field.

The NCAA Division II Panthers controlled play from the outset and outshot USCB 34-3, including a 22-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Sand Sharks were coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to Tennessee Wesleyan in which they registered a school-record 36 shots (22 on goal), but they were unable to generate much of an attack against a Florida Tech team that has allowed only six shots on goal through three games.

"We are too inconsistent and need to play at a higher level," USCB coach Ed Heberling said. "We lacked energy and passion today, and our efforts on the field proved it."

USCB trailed only 2-0 at halftime thanks to nine first-half saves from senior Pascale Rocca, who finished with 11 saves and allowed five goals in her second career start in goal. The Panthers broke it open with three goals in a span of 15 minutes early in the second half and tacked on three more goals in an eight-minute stretch.

The Sand Sharks hit the road for their final non-conference test Sept. 19 at Brenau (Ga.) before opening Sun Conference play with home matches against Southeastern at 4 p.m. on Sept. 24 and versus Ave Maria at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26.
