@USCBSoccer Runs Win Streak To 3 With 3-0 Win Over FMU

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The USCB women's soccer team ran its winning streak to three games with a dominant 3-0 victory over visiting Florida Memorial on Sunday at Fin Land Field.

Hayley Pina scored a pair of second-half goals, Daniella Borjas netted her first of the season, and Moa Johansson made four saves for her second career shutout as the Sand Sharks improved to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in Sun Conference play.

The Lions (1-5, 0-3 TSC) frustrated the Sand Sharks early with a strong defensive effort, but Borjas ran down an angled pass from Cameron Croney-Clark and beat Florida Memorial goalkeeper Maria Kecskemeti one-on-one to open the scoring with less than 30 seconds remaining in the half.

"The first half was a challenge, as they were well-organized and kept numbers behind the ball," USCB coach Ed Heberling said. "Our pressure paid off, as Cam won a ball and played it nicely to Dani for the simple and composed finish. That goal is what we needed to gain some confidence headed to half."

The coaching staff made a simple adjustment at the break that allowed the Sand Sharks to produce numerous scoring opportunities in the second half, and Pina was able to finish two of them in impressive fashion.

The junior forward added to her USCB career record totals for goals and points with a pair of strong strikes, finishing beautiful passes from Sam Satterlee and Poppy Miller to cushion the Sand Sharks' lead. Miller led an outstanding defensive effort, as USCB allowed just six shots and four shots on goal.

"I'm extremely happy for the team after today's match," Heberling said. "We have shown improvement and growth this season and will continue to develop as we move forward. We need to focus and prepare for the upcoming weekend to keep this streak alive."

The Sand Sharks host Warner for another Sun Conference match at 3 p.m. Friday before traveling to Webber International on Sunday for the first of three consecutive road games.
