@USCBSoftball Drops Two To Former TSC Rival Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The USCB softball team played its first road games of the 2016 season Friday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to former Sun Conference rival Embry-Riddle.

The Eagles claimed 10-5 and 8-4 victories for their first wins in 10 all-time meetings with the Sand Sharks.

Senior Ashlie Layman suffered her first loss of the season in the opener, allowing five runs on four hits with four walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Haley Brown went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Bailey Craven was 2-for-3 with a homer, and Marissa Becker was 2-for-4 and scored twice to lead USCB's offense in the first game.

Embry-Riddle's Robi Zimmerman limited the Sand Sharks to three runs and six hits over four innings to earn the win and had two hits and three RBIs at the plate, while Raquelli Bianco had a three-run homer among her two hits.

In the second game, Brown's first home run of the season tied it at 1 in the second inning, but Mckenzee Quinn's bases-clearing three-run double sparked a four-run rally in the third and the Eagles put it away with three in the sixth.

Taylor Boyett (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs and six hits over three innings with five walks. Becker and Alexa Moore each had two hits and an RBI for USCB.

Bianco was the winning pitcher, striking out eight while allowing four runs (three earned) and eight hits over seven frames.

The Sand Sharks are back in action Wednesday, playing a non-conference doubleheader at Coastal Georgia beginning at 1 p.m.
