#SandSharkBaseball Streak Ends At 10 Games With Split At Middle Georgia

COCHRAN, Ga. – The USCB baseball team ran its winning streak to 10 games before dropping the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Middle Georgia State.

The Sand Sharks held off a late rally for a 3-2 victory in the first game before the Knights won 13-1 in the finale. The loss was the first for USCB (20-3) since Feb. 19.

Justin Kortessis (2-0) pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the win in game 1, allowing four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Blake Drew added to his school-record career save total, giving up two unearned runs in 1 1/3 innings before nailing down the victory.

The Sand Sharks opened the scoring in the third, when Josh Reinhart led off with a double and scored on Matt Kianka's double. Kal Davis doubled and scored on an error in the fourth to make it 2-0, and Thomas Estopare singled and scored on Nick Payne's double-play grounder in the sixth.

Kianka, Davis and Reinhart each had two hits for USCB.

USCB grabbed an early lead in the finale, as Brandon Joyce drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning before Jake Hundley worked out of the jam. The Knights answered with three runs in the second and tacked on five in the third to break it open.

Kianka had two of USCB's three hits. Zach Massengale (2-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) in 2 1/3 innings.

The Sand Sharks return home for a four-game series with Fisher (Mass.) this weekend, playing doubleheaders at noon Friday and Saturday.
