PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – USCB sophomore Franzi Knoetsch claimed the third victory of her collegiate career Tuesday, winning the Callaway Women's Collegiate by one shot to lead the Sand Sharks to a third-place finish.
The Sand Sharks posted a team score of 306 – shaving 15 strokes off their first-round score – but couldn't move up the leaderboard. Rhodes College (601) won the team title by 17 shots over Cumberlands (618), while USCB was third (627) in the 16-team field.
Knoetsch followed up her opening 73 with a 3-over-par 74 to earn the individual crown. She bogeyed the final two holes but held off Kaitlyn Riley of Cumberlands (Ky.) by one shot. It's the first win of the season for Knoetsch, who was victorious at the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational and the Old South Intercollegiate as a freshman.
Freshman Vanessa Schloo (80-78—158) tied for 14th, followed by senior Lina Sekerkova (85-76—161) in a tie for 19th. Sophomore Emily Turner (84-78—162) finished 25th, freshman Megan Martin (84-81—165) tied for 32nd, and senior Maggie Black (94-94—188) was 76th.
The Sand Sharks return to action March 19-20 at the Lowcountry Intercollegiate at Moss Creek Golf Club in Bluffton.
