FORT MYERS, Fla. – The USCB baseball team suffered its first loss of the Sun Conference Tournament on Saturday, falling 8-5 to Webber International at City of Palms Park.
The Sand Sharks scored a single run in each of the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead before the Warriors erupted for five runs in the fifth and added two more on Ramon Sanchez's two-run homer in the sixth to make it 7-4.
USCB pulled within 7-5 on Thomas Estopare's RBI single in the seventh and loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth, but Jose Serrano got a strikeout, a grounder back to the mound and a fly ball to left to get out of the jam.
Josh Reinhart went 4-for-4 and John Cloyd drove in two runs for the Sand Sharks. Jamie Strock took the loss, allowing five runs – two earned – and nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.
The Sand Sharks (42-11) will face No. 5 seed Southeastern in an elimination game at 11 a.m. Sunday with the winner advancing to take on Keiser at 7 p.m.
