@USCBSoccer Wins at Florida Memorial on Late Goal

Miramar, FL—The USCB women's soccer team found themselves back in the win column this afternoon after earning the 1-0 result over Sun Conference foe, Florida Memorial.

After a scoreless first half, the Sand Sharks came out in the second half and put the pressure on the Lions immediately. "Much credit to FMU, as they made it a challenge for us today. Our seniors stepped up and set the tone in the second half," said Coach Ed Heberling.

The second half forced the Sand Sharks to battle through a tough Lions' defense and a sideways downpour to find the victory today. Program-leading scorer Hayley Piña broke the draw in the 81st minute when she flicked a header over goalkeeper Adriana Rosero off a corner kick from sophomore Rileigh Olsen.

After the game, Heberling added, "Our possession was key to breaking down their backline. We now need to prepare for a talented and confident Thomas team at home on Wednesday."

Leading the way for the Sand Sharks this afternoon were MJ Orduña and Piña each with three shots on goal, junior goalkeeper Courtney Sherry stopped three shots to earn her third clean sheet of the season.

The women's soccer team will be back in action Wednesday, October 4, when they host the Nighthawks of Thomas University at 4 p.m.
