#SandSharkBaseball Sweeps BPC, Runs Winning Streak To 8 Games

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The USCB baseball team ran its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Brewton-Parker on Tuesday at Richard Gray Sports Complex.

The 18th-ranked Sand Sharks won 3-1 and 4-2 behind strong pitching efforts from Zac Burke and Nick Constan to sweep the non-conference twinbill.

GAME 1 – USCB 3, BPC 1

Burke struck out 11 in a four-hitter, and Alex Murphy drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single in the third inning.

The Barons opened the scoring on Sable Gilliard's RBI double in the second but did little else against Burke, who had eight strikeouts through three innings and 11 with two outs in the fifth before falling one shy of tying the school record.

Murphy led off the bottom of the second with a triple to right-center and scored on Brandon Joyce's RBI double to tie it. Murphy again sparked the rally in the third, smacking a two-run single up the middle to break the tie.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Zac Burke (7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K)

GAME 2 – USCB 4, BPC 2

Constan gave the Sand Sharks six solid innings, allowing one run and four hits while striking out seven, and Michael Biasello pitched the seventh for his third save as USCB's pitching staff again set the tone.

Brewton-Parker put together a two-out rally in the second to take a 1-0 lead on George Boyd IV's RBI single, but USCB answered with a run in the bottom of the frame to tie it.

Thomas Estopare led off the fifth with a double and scored on Joyce's sacrifice fly to break the tie, and Mclean Hartz tacked on a two-run single in the sixth to make it 4-1.

The Barons pushed across a run in the seventh on Brandon Hinkson's RBI double and had the tying run on first, but Biasello worked out of the jam to preserve the win.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Mclean Hartz (1-for-2, 2 RBIs)
