HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The USCB softball team was unable to solve Keiser pitcher Riley Caylor, falling 2-1 and 5-1 to the Seahawks in the conclusion of the teams' three-game Sun Conference series Saturday at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
GAME 1 – KU 2, USCB 1
All the scoring came in the first inning, and Riley Caylor outdueled Abby Pac the rest of the way.
The Seahawks used a pair of bunt singles and two stolen bases to set the table for Cheyenne Blumberg's two-run single. USCB answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Marissa Becker tripled and scored on Kayla Boyle's RBI single, but the Sand Sharks left two runners on.
Kaitlyn O'Hearn recorded USCB's only other hit, a single leading off the fourth, but she was stranded at third and Caylor didn't allow another baserunner.
Bojangles' Player of the Game: Abby Pac (7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K)
GAME 2 – KU 5, USCB 1
Caylor kept USCB's hitter off-balance, holding the Sand Sharks without a hit until Natassja Hatcher's single leading off the fifth.
The Seahawks took the lead in the third on Blumberg's RBI single and made it 2-0 when Blumberg and Kelsey Brodbeck combined for a double-steal to bring Brodbeck home. The duo teamed up again in the fifth, with Blumberg singling home Brodbeck for a 3-0 lead.
The Sand Sharks loaded the bases with three straight infield singles to start the sixth but managed only one run, and Keiser tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
USCB loaded the bases again in the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but Caylor retired the final two batters to end the threat.
