#SandSharkBaseball Drops Two To #17 Middle Georgia

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The USCB baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to No. 17 Middle Georgia on Tuesday, falling 15-2 and 7-6 at Richard Gray Sports Complex.

The Sand Sharks rallied late in the second game and had the tying run at first base before the Knights ended the threat.

GAME 1 – MGA 15, USCB 2

Middle Georgia jumped on the Sand Sharks early with three runs in the first inning and eight in the second, and the Knights came up with big plays in key spots to prevent a USCB comeback.

USCB scored a run in the third on Nick Payne's RBI single and added another in the fourth on Michael Grunder's RBI double, and the Sand Sharks had the bases loaded before center fielder Logan Smith robbed Alex Murphy of a potential grand slam with a leaping catch as he crashed into the fence in left-center to end the fourth inning.

Right-hander Colin Tindall pitched well in relief to give the Sand Sharks a chance to get back in it, but USCB managed only five hits against starter Jake Hundley and reliever Chris Cuthrell.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Colin Tindall (5 2/3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K)

GAME 2 – MGA 7, USCB 6

USCB erased most of a five-run deficit, but the Sand Sharks' seventh-inning rally fell just short in the nightcap.

Freshman Noah Matthews' two-run triple sparked a three-run fifth inning as the Sand Sharks cut the deficit to 5-3, but Middle Georgia tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh to provide some insurance.

The Knights needed the extra cushion when freshman Jackson Massey delivered an RBI single and Murphy followed with a two-run single in the seventh, bringing the winning run to the plate, but reliever Crandall Poore was able to end the threat and earn the save.

Nick Graham was 2-for-3 and scored two runs for the Sand Sharks, and freshman left-hander Ryan Reynolds gave USCB a strong outing from the bullpen, allowing two runs and four hits over 3 1/3 innings.

Bojangles' Player of the Game: Noah Matthews (1-for-4, triple, run, 2 RBIs)
