Lakeland, Fla.-- A stingy USCB defense held the No. 3 Southeastern Fire, the nation's highest-scoring offense, to 12 shots on goal as
Logan Leask continued proving to be one of if not the best goalkeeper in the Sun Conference.
It took 31 minutes for the Fire to strike. A broken clearance ended up on the right foot of Lynsey Kelly who rifled a screamer into the upper left corner to put Southeastern up 1-0. The Fire were able to find pay dirt again in the Uchenna Kanu, the leading scorer in all of colleg women's soccer this season, put away the second goal of the game in the 38
th minute. Kanu was then able to flick in a header into the net with just 55 seconds remaining in the first half to give SEU the 3-0 advantage at the break.
The best chance for USCB came six minutes into the second half when
Anna Gignilliat was able to cut across a defender deep in the corner and whip a cross over the head of the Fire goalkeeper, Melissa Corrie, but the Sand Sharks were not able to capitalize on the loose ball in the box.
SEU capped off their scoring in the 83
rd minute when Isamar Duran put the ball inside the far post after collecting the ball just inside the top of the box.
The Sand Sharks will be back in action this Wednesday, October 24, when they host non-conference No. 19 Georgia Gwinnett College. Kick off is set for 2:00 p.m. Live stats and video will be available.
