Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

USCB Soccer Season Ends at No. 6 Keiser University, Sand Sharks Fall 3-0

West Palm Beach, Fla.—The USCB women's soccer team, playing in their second Sun Conference semifinals match in program history, fell on the road to the No. 6 Keiser University Seahawks this afternoon 3-0.

Keiser's Matilda Ovenberger was able to put the Seahawks up 1-0 in the 19th minute off a pass from teammate Tova Nilsson. The duo hooked up again in the 67th minute, and the Seahawks capped off their scoring in the 86th minute when Kyoka Koshijma scored her 4th of the season.

For the match the Seahawks were given a generous 53 shots on the scoresheet—most of which either rolled harmlessly into the hands of goalkeeper Logan Leask, were wildly off target, or were crosses that Leask snagged out of the air. Keiser was able to put 15 shots on target, where Leask recorded 12 saves on the day.

Under the leadership of interim head coach Jay Harris, the Sand Sharks end the season at 8-9-1 overall and 4-5-1 in Sun Conference play, earning their sixth trip to the postseason and their second trip to the TSC semifinals in program history.

After the game, Harris noted, "I am immensely proud of our team and excited for 2019. Keiser are one of th best teams in the nation, and as disappointing as this loss is, we have to look at how far we have come. We were beaten by a better team today, but we equaled the best this program has ever done. We should feel extremely proud of what we have accomplished this season. The goal moving forward will be to improve on what we did this year."

In a season where goals were hard to come by, the team took pride in their ability to play solid on the defensive side, where they held opponents to 35 goals—the second-lowest goals-against in USCB history (34 GA in 2016).

USCB will now have bid good-bye to four outstanding young women who will graduate this spring: Melissa Fichtner, Camilla Lazoski, Brittney Neser and Courtney Sherry. You can check out pictures from senior day here.
