Hardeeville, SC-- The USCB baseball team was able to put together their third win in a row this evening at Richard Gray with a pair of victories over Sun Conference opponent Florida Memorial, 18-8 and 4-1.
The Sand Sharks started the game with 9 runs scored in the bottom of the first frame to put the score out of reach for the Lions. The first game featured two Sand Shark home runs, one each from
Alex Murphy and
Cameron Smith.
Chris Vazquez and
Tristan Triplett added a stolen base each in the game, and on the hill
Zac Burke picked up the win, going 5.2 innings giving up 9 hits and 8 runs.
The story of the night though fell in the second game and to starting pitcher
Nick Constan. Constan threw a complete game and set a new single game strikeout record with 17 total in his performance. The previous record of 12 strikeouts was reached six different times in USCB history. Constan was throwing heat from the beginning of the game and was aided by the run support offered by
Jay Newell.
Newell batted in all four Sand Shark runs in game two. He had a 2-RBI double that scored Murphy and Vazquez in the bottom of the first, a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to bring in Triplett and an RBI-double in the fifth to score Murphy a second time.
The Sand Sharks will take on Florida Memorial in the final game of the weekend series tomorrow at 12 pm. The game will be brought to you at
