Hardeeville, SC-- The USCB baseball team dropped their Sun Conference opener to the Keiser University (Fla.) Seahawks today at Richard Gray Sports Complex. The Sand Sharks began putting together a rally in the bottom of the fifth, but it turned out to be a little too late for the home team.
The Seahawks opened the scoring in the top of the first when they loaded the bases and brought two runs across when Anferee Torruella hit into a fielder's choice groundout to shortstop
Chris Vazquez. The visitors added two more runs in the third and then had back-to-back four-run innings in the fourth and fifth to earn a 12-0 lead.
The Sand Sharks did find a short rally in the bottom of the fifth.
Tristan Triplett,
Vasquez, and
Alex Murphy each had RBI singles to move the score to 12-3 before cutting the lead to 12-4 in the bottom of the seventh when Murphy doubled to left center.
On the mound, Seahawks' ace Taylor Blatch picked up the win going five innings, giving up five hits, three runs and striking out six.
The Sand Sharks will be back in action tomorrow against the same Keiser University team with a start time for the double-header set for 12:00 PM, wether-pending. Please stay tuned to
