Brunswick, GA-- The USCB softball team was able to improve their overall record to 26-11, while moving up to third place in the Sun Conference standings after defeating College of Coastal Georgia in a double-header yesterday evening. The Sand Sharks had dropped two games to the Mariners in their first meeting earlier this season, so it was especially sweet to get those games back last night.
In game one,
Canyon Crosby took to the circle and threw the complete game, going 7.0 innings, giving up four hits, walking three and striking out four. Crosby is now 10-2 on the year.
Offensively, the Sand Sharks found the winning run in the fourth inning when
Carrie Cochran singled up the middle to bring in
Caroline Heaton. The Sand Sharks added two more runs in the sixth inning off a
Taylor Boykin two-RBI single up the middle to score
Kayla Boyle and
Emily Phillips.
In game two USCB was able to jump out 1-0 in the third inning thanks to
Alexa Moore being able to make her way around the bases and score off a Mariners' miscue. USCB then added two more runs in the sixth and an insurance marker in the seventh. Boyle hit a two-RBI shot to right center and brought home
Kaitlyn O'Hearn and Boykin.
Melina Martinez then scored in the seventh off an O'Hearn single through the middle.
Abby Pac pitched all seven innings in game two to earn her 11th win of the year. Pac gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four.
USCB will be in action on Tuesday, April 3, when they host Thomas University (GA) for a double-header set for 1 pm. Live stats and streaming will be available at
