Hardeeville, SC-- The USCB softball team hosted Thomas University (GA), the 10th-ranked team in the NAIA Coache's Top 25 Poll, in a double-header this afternoon at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
The Thomas University Night Hawks used a five-run first inning to power past the Sand Sharks in the first game.
Maria Molloseau came in after the first five batter scored and effectively shut the door on the TU offense. Molloseau went 7 innings, giving up three hits, no runs, and striking out six.
The lone run in the first game came when Molloseau hit a sacrifice fly to score
Taylor Boykin in the sixth inning. Also playing well in the first game was Kayla Boyle, who went 3-3 at the plate with a stolen base.
USCB bounced backed in the second game and jumped to the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when
Kaila Billingsley hit into a fielder's choice that scored
Brooke Benenhaley.
Thomas struck back with two runs in the fifth before the Sand Sharks found two of their own in the bottom half of the same inning when
Kaitlyn O'Hearn hit a two-RBI single through the right side, scoring
Rachel Frankhouser and
Melina Martinez.
Molloseau came in at the top of the sixth frame and earned the save, pitching two innings without giving up any hits and striking out one.
USCB softball will now head to Lakeland, Florida for a double-header with the Fire set for Saturday, April 7, at 1 pm.
