Clermont, Fla.-- USCB's softball team returns from the PFX Spring Games, held annually in Clermont, Florida, with four more wins on the 2018 campaign. The Sand Sharks played two games on Friday and two more on Sunday this past weekend.
In the first game USCB faced Mount Vernon Nazarene (OH) and walked away with a 2-0 win after
Haley Hawkins singled in the fourth inning to plate two runs, scoring
Crystal Owens and
Natassja Hatcher.
Abby Pac went all seven innings in the circle for the Sand Sharks to earn her sixth win of the year. On the day, Pac conceded only 3 hits, gave up 0 runs, 0 walks and had 3 strikeouts.
USCB then saw Cleary University (Mich.) in the second game on Friday. The Sand Sharks made quick work of the Cougars, invoking the run-rule in the fifth inning. Hawkins went 2-2 at the plate with 2 runs scored, while five other Sand Sharks added a hit each en route to the 8-0 victory.
Maria Molloseau earned her fourth win of the year, throwing all five innings, giving up 3 hits.
Sunday's first game brought together USCB and RV Bellevue (Neb.). The Bruins jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Sand Sharks came back with one run in each of the second and third innings. The Bruins then took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, going up 4-2 before the Sand Sharks plated four runs in the top of the seventh to ice the game. In the seventh inning
Natassja Hatcher hit a 2-run homer over the right field fence, scoring
Kaitlyn O'Hearn.
Canyon Crosby then hit a 2-run shot over the right field fence, scoring
Caroline Heaton.
In the fourth game of the weekend the Sand Sharks took the 2-0 lead on Trojans after Hawkins hit the sacrifice fly to score Crosby. Hatcher then hit an RBI-single to score O'Hearn. The Trojans were able to tie the game at 2-2 in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning when Hatcher's single up the middle to score O'Hearn.
The 4-0 weekend moved the Sand Sharks to 16-4 on the year. USCB will now head to Columbus, Georgia this weekend to take part in the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
