Columbus, GA-- The USCB softball team completed their first two games at the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic this afternoon. The Sand Sharks defeated Talladega (Ala.) 7-2, but were unable to overcome an early deficit in the second game to No. 13 Ottawa University (Kan.).
In the 10:00 am game against Talladega started with the Tornadoes gaining the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Sand Sharks were able to plate two runs in the top of the second off a

Kaitlyn O'Hearn. USCBÂ then added two runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth and capped it off with an
Alexa Moore two-run home run in the seventh to ice the game and reach their 17th win of the season.
In the circle for the first game, Crosby improved her record to 6-1.
USCB then faced No. 13 Ottawa University (Kan.) in the second game of the day. The Braves used a five-run second inning to put the score out of reach for the Sand Sharks. Though several players did well at the plate, includingÂ

Natassja Hatcher going 2-4 and O'Hearn going 3-4 at the plate, the Sand Sharks just weren't able to overcome the strong play of the Braves in the second game.
The team will be back in action tomorrow when they see No. 5 Brenau University (GA) at 9:00 am, RV Georgetown (Kent.) at 11:00 am, and then No. 8 William Carey (Miss.) at 1:30 pm.
