Hardeeville, SC-- The USCB 2018 baseball season came to a close this afternoon at Richard Gray, where the Keiser University Seahawks (Fla.) were able to take both games of the double-header, 7-2 and 14-1.
Game One
USCB was able to jump to the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after a
Kelvin Brito leadoff single to center field got things going for the Sand Sharks.
Charlie McGinnis then found the infield single before being thrown out in the subsequent play when
Keith Olmo grounded into a fielder's choice. Olmo then stole second base to put runners at 2nd and 3rd.
Graham Hatfield then drove home Brito on the sacrifice single.
Keiser then scored five runs in the next three innings to put things out of reach for USCB. The Sand Sharks found another run in the bottom of the seventh when Olmo hit an RBI-single to center field to bring home Brito.
On the mound, senior
Daniel Wagner, went 5.1 innings before leaving game to a standing ovation for his time at USCB and his leadership in the classroom and on the field.
Game Two
Keiser used four 4-run innings to power their way through the second game, ending it early, after invoking the run rule in the seventh inning.
The lone run for USCB came off the bat of senior McGinnis, who hit a solo shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth.
Paxton Buckner,
Kevin Ortiz-Arroyo,
Ryan Reynolds and
Wyatt McCampbell combined to do the pitching duties.
