HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - Despite Anna Gignilliat scoring first, USCB soccer dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to SCAD on Wednesday night at the SCAD Athletic Complex.
Inside The Box Score
Gignilliat - one goal, 15th goal of season, 23rd career goal
Madeline Matusik - one shot, one shot on goal
How It Happened
The first half was a balanced attack from both sides. SCAD put more shots on goal, 4-2, but it couldn't capitalize. Instead, one of USCB's two shots on goal found the back of the net to give the Sand Sharks the lead.
Gignilliat tallied the goal in the 11th minute, as she scored from outside of the 18-yard box. The senior lofted the shot over the SCAD goalkeeper's head and gave USCB the 1-0 lead. The goal was her 15th of the season and the 23rd of her career.
After the 15-minute halftime break, SCAD started to possess and took advantage by ripping 15 shots (six on goal) in the second half.
Most of the shots came from distance from the Bees, but SCAD tallied the game-tying goal in the 81st minute off a corner kick. Noel Thompson took the kick, and after firing a cross in the box, Julia Rauch found herself on the ball and slipped it into the USCB net to tie the game at 1-1.
After not being able to settle the match during regular time, the two clubs headed into overtime.
SCAD started to attack the Sand Shark net early in overtime, including a shot on goal in the 92nd minute.
With time winding down in the first overtime period, SCAD tallied the game-winning goal in the 99th minute. The Sand Sharks committed a foul on USCB's half of the field, and Thompson took the free kick. The Bee put the shot on goal and just past the outstretched hands of the USCB goalkeeper to seal the 2-1 victory.
